Famelix is a Brazilian desktop Linux distribution which mimics the look and feel of Windows XP. The project has released version 1.3 earlier this week with the following characteristics: many updates and bug fixes in order to facilitate the migration of users from Windows XP to Linux; Linux kernel 2.6.17; KDE 3.5.5; switch to udev for improved hardware recognition; addition of BR-Office.org; various improvements to the KDE desktop and Samba integration; simplification of the launch menu; improved hardware support for wireless network cards, webcams and modems. 2007-01-31 NEW • Development Release: Pioneer Linux 2.0 RC1
- Dianne Ursini has announced the availability of the first release candidate of Pioneer Linux 2.0 "Basic" edition: "Technalign, Inc. has announced they have released Pioneer RC1 of Pioneer Basic Release 2. Release Candidate 1 includes the latest release of Automatix2, created by the Automatix Team, which is a graphical interface for automating the installation of the most commonly requested applications in Pioneer Linux. 2007-01-31 NEW • Development Release: SaxenOS 1.1 RC2
Michael Stibane has announced the availability of the second release candidate of SaxenOS 1.1, a light-weight, Zenwalk-based distribution designed for older computers: "RC2 in English just uploaded. It's now completely based on Zenwalk 4.2 with kernel 2.6.18.6. As each time I include some commercial software, I really like, here is the list of what is included in this release: REALbasic 2006 Linux, TextMaker 2002 Freeware, PlanMaker 2004 Trial, VirtualBox 1.3.2 Personal Edition (networking NAT only for now, my fault, not Innotek's) and of course the Java and Flash packages. Rubén Rodríguez Pérez has announced the release of Trisguel GNU/Linux 1.0, a 100% free, Debian-based distribution sponsored by the regional government of Galicia in Spain and with complete support for the Galician language. The project's first stable release comes with kernel 2.6.18.6 and includes GNOME 2.14, IceWeasel 2.0, OpenOffice.org 2.0.4, 3D desktop with AIGLX and Compiz, pre-configured software repository containing additional Debian 4.0 packages with security updates, new installer with improved hardware detection, support for assistive technologies, new live system which can be installed on USB storage devices, and other new features.
